Show must go on: B2B's The Love List moved to July 13

Good grief!

It was receptive audiences that attended Bard to Broadway's inauguration of their new Chrysler Theatre home for You're A Good Man Charlie Brown. Those hoping to catch The Love List's premiere on Canada Day though were disappointed after a decision to cancel the first two shows.

"It wasn't ready,"said B2B's manager Debbie Tardiff. "They did a dress rehearsal on Sunday and a decision was made on Monday night."

Tardiff said the idea of going ahead with the Norm Foster comedy's first two shows, scheduled for July 1 and 2, was debated but those with a vested interest agreed the play wasn't ready.

"It's not uncommon I'm told,"said Tardiff.

She said cast and crew will raise the curtain for their next scheduled performance on July 13 and continue without disruption.

She said a new database in use this year captured many prospective attendees telephone numbers that were then used to call as many people as possible with advance warning of the scheduling change.

Tickets were offered to another performance but "in the case of some tourists that didn't work for them ... we gave some refunds on [Tuesday]."

Tardiff said The Love List has a lot of dialogue and one member of the cast is an actor returning to the stage after a lengthy absence.

"He's a super, super, talent but he hasn't acted in a while,"Tardiff said. "There were a few disappointed people but nobody was angry."

Next up in the now abbreviated season is the musical Annie Get Your Gun from July 3 through 6.

"Apparently it all gelled yesterday during rehearsals,"said Tardiff noting the play is B2B's largest production of the season and features a bigger orchestra.
