Canada Day manageable: RCMP

By Fred Davies
July 3rd, 2008

There were some tickets issued for alcohol offenses, but Oceanside RCMP said Canada Day celebrants were, for the most part, well behaved this year.

"Overall things were pretty good. There were no major incidents whatsoever during Canada Day,"said Cpl. Garry Cox.

Cox said a contingent of uniformed and plain clothes officers patrolled Parksville's Community park throughout the day and during the evening's fireworks display, with a few, under-the-influence partygoers taken back to the station to sleep it off.

Cox outlined the infractions RCMP dealt with.

They included: two marijuana seizures, three arrests for drunkenness in a public place, six tickets issued to minors in possession of alcohol, six again for consumption of liquor in a public place and four citations for intoxication in public.

"Even thought that sounds heavy it's really not overly excessive as far as we're concerned,"said Cox.
